“It will be near impossible to remove all biases in these systems. Just As Medical biases have historically, these will systems will continue to disproportionately impact the most socially-determined groups in the future.”
“Expecting the AI to be able to diagnose most complex diseases is far off. Not because the machine cannot, but because our system is not designed to allow staff the time to input the amount of data necessary to make complex diagnoses The problem is with how the data is input into the AI. It will not recognize nuances that a human doctor or nurse will. Currently it’s still very much “select all which apply” box-checking. If even part of the input is missed, then it will spit out the wrong answer. It’s a huge problem and it’s not going to be easy to overcome, particularly while staffing shortages abound. Staff will need much more time regularly to input accurately these data metrics for complex diagnoses”
